Market Share is an economic strategy game created by Fotios Petropolous and illustrated by Anton Hallmann in which players take on the role of company owners competing in a duopoly market. Each company specialises in producing and selling a product, trying to outperform its rival and secure the largest possible market share.
During each economic quarter, players hire experts, acquire contracts, and decide on their advertising budget, which influences their potential market share, as well as their production levels. Demand is uncertain and affected by random events. Players must fulfil this demand through their current production and any remaining inventory from previous quarters, converting potential market share into actual sales.
Unfulfilled demand or missed contracts reduce the company’s value, putting pressure on players to balance production, marketing, and long-term strategy.
