Since the Jan. 6 insurrection in 2021, the hard right has been actively organizing by normalizing hate, legitimizing extremism, and spreading conspiracy theories to undermine inclusive democracy. In its annual Year in Hate & Extremism report the SPLC still identified 1,263 hate and antigovernment groups throughout 2025. This slight decline in the number (1,430 formal groups in 2023) is not an all-clear.
